How were you inspired to begin your channel? Where did you start?
VD: I’ve been watching beauty gurus since middle school and I’ve always dreamed about having my own channel one day. During the summer of my junior year, I was feeling bored, so I started doing DIY projects. I would create new room decor, decorate my school supplies, or cut up my old clothes. Later, I had an idea to film a DIY tutorial and post it on Youtube so I could share with people the things I’ve been making. That’s pretty much how my channel was started!
What inspires you and keeps you moving forward? Why are you passionate about it?
VD: For inspiration, I like to browse Pinterest (the holy grail for whenever I run out of ideas) and tumblr. I also spend an excessive amount of time scrolling through my Instagram Explore page to find makeup inspiration. I think it’s my passion for creativity that allows me to keep making videos. There are so many ways that I can express myself through YouTube, from the way I film, how I edit, to my music choice.
What’s your favorite aspect of the beauty & cosmetics industry?
VD: I love keeping up with the latest makeup trends and finding about new products! There’s something so fun and exciting about staying up all night waiting for a new product to launch so you can grab it before anyone else (To those of you who own the Kylie Lip Kits, you know what I’m talking about). Also, the makeup community is filled with great people who share the same passion as you!
What makes your brand unique from other beauty channels?
VD: There are so many amazing beauty channels out there, so I try to switch it up by uploading DIY and fashion videos every once in a while. I want to be able to express myself through a variety of ways, instead of focusing on just makeup.
How do you organize/plan out your content?
VD: My schedule can sometimes be hectic with school and work, but I always try to upload at least once a month. I like to plan my videos around the seasons and holidays. For example, in the summer I can film a “beach day makeup look,” and in December I can film something like “DIY Christmas gifts!” I also like to follow what’s popular among other beauty channels, with videos like “My Morning Routine” and “What’s in My Bag?”
What is your goal for your channel? Dreams?
VD: My main goal is to improve the quality of my videos and to start uploading more often. Of course, I also want to grow my channel and reach out to a bigger audience. One of my biggest dreams is to attend Beautycon or IMATS one day and meet all my favorite YouTubers.
Do you have any tips for others trying to break into the beauty industry?
VD: Be patient and don’t give up! I think the beauty industry is super fun and amazing but also very competitive. It’s important to develop your own personal style that will distinguish you from others. Social networking is also a huge part of the beauty industry. Don’t be afraid to promote your content and tell others about your brand.
What are your favorite beauty products or your go-to skincare regimen?
VD: I can’t live without my NARS Sheer Glow foundation, Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade, Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, and my Champagne Pop highlighter! I use those products religiously. For skincare, I like to keep it simple. First I remove my makeup using Neutrogena makeup wipes, and then I wash my face with Clean and Clear 3-in-1 exfoliating cleanser.
What products are currently in your purse?
VD: I always keep, like, 3 different lipsticks in my purse! I’ve been obsessed with liquid lipsticks lately, and my favorite is Beeper by Colourpop. I also keep oil blotting sheets because my face gets so oily throughout the day. Eyelash glue is also a must because there’s been too many times that I had to walk around with one eyelash hanging off LOL.
What’s your personal style?
VD: My personal style changes every day but the looks I go for most often are either boho, minimal, or sporty chic. I love neutrals and my closet is mainly black and white.
