Paleo Diet is a type of diet that is much in fashion right now. Paleo dietitians believe that eating like prehistoric humans will help you lose weight and this diet has been met with success as well. So, before starting your own Paleo diet, be sure to remember this very important thing: the proportions.
By proportions, we don’t mean calorie counting or portion controlling. In fact, doing these two can be detrimental to your health. Rather, we mean the proportion of proteins, carbohydrates etc. in your diet. If you don’t control the proportions of your meals, the Paleo diet will not work at all.
A Paleo diet needs the opposite of what the food pyramid states. Instead of piling on the carbohydrates and protein, a Paleo diet should be high in fat, moderate in animal protein and low in carbohydrates.
Fats, especially saturated fats like butter and coconut oil. Olive and Macadamia oil are also good for the diet but as drizzles rather than for cooking food in.
Eating animal proteins such as poultry, pork and animal organs is a good idea. Don’t be wary of the fat from animals products as well.
Lastly, carbohydrates are meant to be limited but a few here and there will not hurt. Try adding fresh vegetables and fruits. Add nuts and seeds for snacking and then you’re good to go.
