The Most Common Causes of Acne

Acne is something that affects most people (unless you are among the lucky few). It can take a serious toll on our day to day life ranging from insecurities, pain, emotional stress and plain irritation. Part of the solution is understanding the problem and in this case understanding acne. Basically acne is oil, bacteria, dead skin cells and dirt blocking the pores in your skin triggering your skin to breakout and develop pimples and zits. Your hormones are important in balancing many aspect of your body and the acne you get during your puberty, menstrual cycles, pregnancy and menopause are triggered by changes in your hormones. The common misconception is that only women suffer from hormonal changes but men too, get acne triggered by hormone changes, particularly a spike in their testosterone.

The use of hair and skin products such as hair oils, pomades, heavy moisturizers, eye creams and makeup or even not removing your makeup properly can trigger acne. When you use a cosmetic product, the product gets accumulated within your pores. This can lead oil build up in your skin, clogging the pores and ultimately creating pimples and zits.

Sleep Deprivation
Not getting enough sleep results in your skin secreting more sebum, an oil which is made up of fatty acids and contains squalene which leads to acne. Also, lack of sleep can stress your body and cause an increase in the substance cortisol, it is a major stress hormone, which creates more sebum, further exacerbating your acne woes.

Though there are a number of different factors that can trigger acne, these are among the most common causes. Try to keep these in check and notice results.
