Imagine this. You are two years old and a stranger suddenly kidnaps you and puts you in a bathtub for the rest of your life. If you do something they do not want you to do they do not give you food and because of that your friends, other animals you share your habitat with, attack you; because they do not give food to them as well, so they attack you because you did not do what they wanted you to do. Sometimes they let you out to do a show for hundreds. Also you are going to die long before your times. This is the life of whales at SeaWorld. I was only eight years old when I first went to the SeaWorld. That was the first time I ‘ve seen a killer whale.
Even though I was young, I could see the sadness on its face. A few hours later there was a show so we decided to go to that show. It was an orca entertainment show. The trainer ordered they did not get the food and it went on like that. It was the first time I saw the real about the SeaWorld; they were torturing whales. SeaWorld should not be allowed to capture whales because SeaWorld is taking them away from their families and torturing them. One reason why SeaWorld should not be allowed to capture whales is because SeaWorld is torturing the whales. First of all SeaWorld is torturing the whales by harming them mentally. SeaWorld is putting the gigantic whales in a swimming pool, which is the size of a bathtub for a human. Sometimes they put two or more whales in this swimming pool. If this is not torturing them what is it? When the whale does not behave the way the trainer wants it to behave they do not give it food for the for that day. So if this orca lives with other orcas they do not give food to the other orcas as well so they attack at the orca because of what it had done to them.
Additionally SeaWorld is harming them physically. The orcas who had been captured by SeaWorld have seen abnormal behavior. For example vomiting. An orca who lives in its natural habitat which is ocean would not vomit at all. This is an abnormal behavior for an orca to do. Also on the orcas who had been captured by SeaWorld have shown depression. Professional trainers say that this is mostly like because of the stress they have. Those orcas who have depression sometimes commit to suicide because of the stress they have. Therefore SeaWorld is torturing the whales physically and mentally which sometimes causes the whales’ death.
Another reason why SeaWorld should not be allowed to capture orcas is because SeaWorld is taking them away from their families which later causes psychological and emotional difficulties. Firstly, those orcas who had been captured by SeaWorld had been taken away at the maximum age of two. Orca researchers say that those orcas do not know about family life. So when those orcas finally have a family they do not know how to act. Can you imagine their feelings at that moment? They are confused; they do not know what to do. Sometimes just because they do not know what to do they leave their children all alone. Additionally, in captivity, orcas are becoming asocial beings. In their habitat they know how to be social because killer whales travel around with their gigantic families. They are never alone but in captivity they becoming asocial. This is an abnormal act for a very social animal. That is also why it is leading them to depression and that is leading them to suicide and eventually death.
Therefore, capturing orcas at the very young age is making them suffer and sometimes it ends with their death. It is clear that SeaWorld is a horrible place for animals. Orca experts say that if there were no SeaWorld more and more animals would have a chance to live longer lives, they wouldn’t be tortured physically and mentally and most importantly those animals would not commit to suicide. Without SeaWorld animals’ lives would be safer, they would spend their entire lives with their family and they would not have to kill themselves because of abhorrent humans that are suppose to protect them but killing them instead.
So we can say that life would be exceptional for those animals who have been living in captivity for years.
