Cuil not so Cuil or Cuil about Cuil I have tried Cuil.com search engine and I was disappointed. I have not found a link during my search to a website that I have created almost half a year ago (both Yahoo and Google for the past three months have been displaying the links). Being generous on the pride feeling, I suspect that there had to be more to their search algorithm than just generating google and yahoo searches. The only think that puzzles me is their bragging rights to have 3 times more websites links than the next search engine while at the same time it was unable to find site with over 100 hits per day. The search results on the website name is as follows:
Cuil - 0 results
Google - 3 results
Yahoo - 7 pages of results.
Therefore the claim of Tom Costello, CEO and co-founder of Cuil looks like bogus one to me where he says “Our significant breakthroughs in search technology have enabled us to index much more of the Internet, placing nearly the entire Web at the fingertips of every user.”
I am very happy to see that there is an alternative in search engine technology that will appeal to many individuals. But I resent fabricating facts in order to acquire users. I guess a saying of “results justify the means” could be easily applied here. I just wonder how much further beyond that impressive marketting campaing will this company get? With the money the company have raised to promote their development it seems that it has been met with success within the capital funding circles. It has to be seen if users like the format even though the data seems to be old. I found that any other claim by Cuil.com within the search technology could only be based on the cosmetics of the search results presentation.
The results to me and many other users that will try the search engine should speak for themselves. Until there is an improvement in search alogarithm I am certain that I will not be surfing with the Cuil for knowledge.
