What can the Knicks do this year In a week the NBA will have its draft of 2008. The knicks have a new team president and a new head coach. The problem is the Knicks have the same "old"team. Since the end of this past terrible season there have lots of ideas on what the knicks should do. Who they should release, trade and of course draft. i feel the team can be transformed into a legitimate contender, but it will take from two, to three seasons of a definite course to get it done. big contracts must be let go to finally bring the team under the salary cap, a definite style of play must be set in motion, so that the front office will know what type of players the team should trade for, sign as free agents and who to draft.
The fans have waited this long, by watching the Knicks play terrible basketball for the past four seasons. They will have to be a little more patient. the process has to start this season by trying to get younger and faster, and usuing the "6th"pick overall in the draft wisely.
There are two players I feel that must be traded for the sake of the team, and its not because they are bad ballplayers. Zack Randolph, and Stephon Marbury, should be traded mainly because of the size of their contracts. Also, as many other expiring contracts as possible should go in order to free up money to sign worthwhile free agents and rookies. All of this is easier said than done, but if the "New Knicks" coach and front office intend to get it right, this has to done this year even at the expense of a won and loss record.
