can the mets make it Right now the Mets are playing there best baseball of this season, but their bullpen is still not a part of their team that can be trusted to do the job day in and day out. They can can be great for a week and then these same pitchers cant hold a lead for two games in a row. They wont be ablr to win their division that way because, even though they have good hitting and defense, they dont have the great hitting tpo to bottom in their lineup, like the Cubs or Rays do to overcome pitching laspes. They are also platooning at four positions, secondbase, left&rightfield and catcher. I Think Jerry Manuel should find a way to play Murphy and Evans at the same time as much as possible, even if it means benching Delgado against some lefties. With September a week away, that means the rosters can be expanded to as much as forty players. Now I am not suggesting that the Mets bring up 15 additional players, all Im saying is that they bring up as much pitching help as possible, mainly Kuntz, Parnell and Neise. For the bench -----at least Martinez, Carp and hopfully Pascussi. One must remember that this sudden serge by the Mets, wasnt just because of Beltran, Delgado, Reyes and Wright getting hot and a change in manergers, but in large part due to the influx of the young players that were brought up to play, instead of being traded at the deadline. If they can keep the bullpen failures to a minimum, and keep feeding on the youth, the Mets have as good as shot as anybody to win their division.
