can the mets finally turn the corner I have no intention of jumping the gun, but it seems the Jerry Manuel has got the Mets to believe in themselves and they are playing a much better brand of baseball. The point is can the team keep it up for the remainder of the season and what can be done to inprove their chances. As far as thier starting pitching is concernced, if Pedro can stay healthy, and the way Pelfrey and Perez have begun to pitch with consistency, add on Maine and Santana and thats not a bad five. The bull pen need some tinkering, but nothing major. Its the position players that have to be fine tuned. The infield seems to be functioning well from both sides of the ball, but I hope when Castillo is ready to come off the DL, they just dont put him in because they gave him a four year contract. Easly has been doing a fine job, but hes 38yrs. old. The young kid Argenis Reyes, a Switch hitter and a fine defensive player with speed could give him the needed days off. Its the corner out-field positions that the major problem points, barring any new injuries. Ryan Church is back on the DL and one just doesnt know if and when he will be 100% this season. Alou is another one that you just dont know how much he can give you or for how long. Endy Chevez can only help so much and you have to rest Beltran once in a while. Most of the good hitters down in the minors bat from the left side, so the answer would have to come from a trade. Xavier Nady, Jason Bay, Matt holiday are some of thenames being mentioned and Im sure there are others. However, the questions that come up are -------who will be made available and what will they cost. i think this is where omar Minaya has to be at his best, in order to get the best player available for the least possible cost.
