Cant Sell A Heater to an Eskimo?

I hear this all the time:

I send out emails to my leads and I dont get any sales.
I have traffic to my page and I dont get any sales.
I advertise in Ezines and I dont get any sales.

If you are doing the three things above and arent getting any sales, there is a good reason, and odds are it is NOT that your leads are no good or your traffic is no good or the Ezines you are advertising in are no good.

The first place to look is your site. You can have all the traffic in the world going to your site, but if you site cant sell, then you arent going to make sales! People go to sites for various reasons:

1. Some go as an incentive. They go to a site that offers them something if they will click on a page. A good example of this is traffic sites. You click to a site and well get someone else to click to your site, etc.

Another example is
sites that will give you a chance to win a lottery or free software or a computer, etc. There are many of them. People say to me all the time: these things dont work. But they DO work! What you arent understanding is that if your offer is a good one and your site is good at selling it, you are going to make sales whether thats the reason they went there or not! Have you ever watched TV and seen an offer that you couldnt resist? You picked up the phone, dialed the 800 number and bought it! You didnt turn on the TV hoping to see that ad so you could buy that product. That ad was good enough to entice you to buy that product on the spur of the moment. Have you ever been "window shopping" to kill time and ended up going inside a store and buying something? See, you werent out to buy, but you saw something you couldnt resist and bought it. There is no such thing as "bad" traffic, but there IS such a thing as a "bad" site: one with ad copy that couldnt sell a heater to an Eskimo!

2. Some go because your ad was good enough to entice them to go to your site. But when they get there, your site needs to re-enforce what your ad said. It needs to close that sale.

3. Some go by seeing banner ads on sites that interest them. But the principle is the same: your site needs to close that sale.

If you dont have your own site and you are getting traffic and not making sales, you need to get your own site. Then your work is to keep tweaking the ad copy on your site until you DO get sales.

Try this: Go to your site and try to look at it from the perspective buyers viewpoint. If its an affiliate site, what enticed you to get into that offer? Did someone call you? Was it that you knew someone who was in it? Was it an email you got? Were you already convinced BEFORE you went to the site? If so, then you are going to have to either take that approach with your perspective buyers OR get your own site so you can write your ad copy from that perspective. In the long run, you will be much better off if you get your own site. It will save you money in the long run, because you can offer more than one thing for sale there, as well as work on your copy until it does the job for you. In addition, you will be able to submit your site to the search engines.

Look, I dont host sites, nor do I sell sites. I sell advertising, so this article is not about enticing you to buy a site or get your site hosted with me. This is all about helping you to get the response you want from your advertising.

One other point that is very important to get across to you is TENACITY. Tenacity is not giving up. Do you think Walmart was built into a successful business in a few months or even a year? No! What makes you think YOUR business will pay your bills and pay for itself in the same amount of time? Stop expecting miracles and then complaining when you dont get them. Many a millionaire was made because he/she kept working to make his/her business better all the time and didnt give up. Look at Bill Gates. Yes, everyone has problems with Microsoft and many love to hate this guy, BUT this guy is worth so much money he could retire today and spend big-time for the rest of his life and still not run out of money, but he keeps advertising and working to make new products to sell. Its that tenacity that got him where his is now and its the same tenacity that will get YOU  there if you use it. Even when you make sales, dont stop there. Keep working to make it work better to give you more sales.

Were all looking for the perfect world: one where we can sit on the beach sipping our favorite drink brought to us by one of our "help" and have our money from sales automatically wired to our bank accounts without ever lifting a finger to make that sale. Well, Ill tell you, those who are really making money are not sitting back on the beaches except when they take that every now and then vacation. They are tweaking ad copy, tweaking site copy, placing ads, making phone calls, buying leads, etc., etc.
But you know what? One day, they will have enough money put away that they will be able to sit on that beach or anywhere they want and live well on what they made!
