Homemade hair bleach recipes are simple to make, an easy way for you to change up your look without spending a lot at hair salons. Bleaching your hair means lightening the color of your hair by removing the melanin on it. There are generally two ways to bleach your hair at home.
- Lemon and water
Fill up a spray bottle with 2 parts lemon juice and 1 part water. Spray the mixture across your hair and let it sit for a few of hours in the sunlight to get the bleaching process going. Although the results aren’t as drastic as chemical bleaches, it can give your hair some much needed character.
- Chamomile or Black Tea
Chamomile and black tea is known to lighten the pigments in your hair. Steep a tea bag of either chamomile or black tea in water and soak your hair in the tea after it has boiled and cooled down. Use this method at least 3 thrice a week for a prolonged time to see gradual results.
- Baking soda
Baking soda is a household product that can be used to lighten hair pigments and get rid of product buildup. Create a paste with baking soda and water and apply it to your hair, leave it on for 15 – 20 minutes.
- Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical used in hair bleach. You can create a mild mixture with equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. Apply the solution onto your hair and leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes. Given that hydrogen peroxide is a chemical, just make sure it does not come in contact with your skin.
