Theresa is a 21 year old Southern California girl that makes fashion videos on YouTube for fun! You can view her channel here.
How were you inspired to begin your channel? Where did you start?
I initially started off with a blogger account back in high school where I shared my outfits. I also started watching a lot of fashion YouTubers at the time and I figured it would be a natural transition for my blog. I was really inspired by Jenn Im’s channel clothesencounters and I thought it would be really fun to start making videos on YouTube.
What inspires you and keeps you moving forward? Why are you passionate about it?
My viewers inspire me and keep me motivated. They’re always leaving such nice and supportive comments and I feel like I’m involved in a wonderful community of likeminded individuals with similar interests which makes me continuously excited to create content to share. My viewers have the best feedback and input on my videos and they make the entire YouTube experience fun for me. There’s also a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction whenever I finish editing a video and post it and I receive positive feedback on it, so I feel that helps maintain my passion for YouTube – I just love sharing content with everyone.
What’s your favorite aspect of the beauty & fashion industry?
I think my favorite aspect of the beauty and fashion industry is how it’s limitless in the sense of creativity – there’s no right or wrong way to express yourself. There’s so many types of styles and looks out there that everyone can take inspiration from.
What makes your brand unique from other beauty & fashion channels?
I think I’ve created a style of video that is different from others that I’ve seen; my lookbook videos tend to be very short (about a minute or two in length) and I feel like that’s become my signature lookbook editing style.
How do you organize/plan out your content?
Whenever I get an idea for a video or inspiration on how to edit a video I write it down in a notebook. I’ll start planning and writing down a rough idea on how I want to film it, how I want to edit it, and if it’s a lookbook, what outfits I want to show. When it comes time to film the video, I look over the notes I’ve made and base it off of what I planned. I always leave room for change in case something ends up not translating well from the planning process to the filming/editing process.
What is your goal for your channel? Dreams?
My goal for my channel would be to continually grow it and create a larger community. I would love to do YouTube full time one day if the opportunity comes along, but I’m also happy with where it is currently.
Do you have any tips for others trying to break into the beauty & fashion industry?
Well, I wouldn’t say that I’m truly involved in this industry since I’m just someone who does fashion videos on YouTube for fun. But I think for people who want to break into the industry, you should find something unique to say. Offer something different. It’s hard to differentiate yourself in this industry because of how oversaturated and cyclical it is – especially with trends repeating themselves and everyone taking inspiration from each other. I think if you can put your own personal twist on something, it can help.
What are your favorite beauty products or your go-to skincare regimen?
A good mascara and eyeliner are always a must for me in regards to makeup. I love the Maybelline mascaras and the Physician’s Formula Eye Booster eyeliner. For skincare, sunscreen is never an option for me.
What products are you currently using on a daily basis?
Skincare wise, I’m still experimenting with different products but the main items are essence, BHA exfoliant, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Makeup wise, I’m using the Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation, Glossier Stretch Concealer, Laura Mercier Translucent Powder, Maybelline mascara, Physician’s Formula Eyeliner, Too Faced highlighter and Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips.
What’s your personal style?
My personal style at the moment is very 90’s mom and dad inspired looks.
How does your personal style influence your branding?
It influences the aesthetic and style of my video editing so everything can be cohesive.
What’s your favorite brand and why?
Honestly, I can’t think of a brand, but any brand that promotes ethical/sustainable choices is a brand that I will support.
What are your go-to outfit combinations?
Any type of crop top with some mom jeans or culottes are my go to outfits.
