Hello Kekayo! Can you introduce yourself to LOORE readers?
Hello! My name is Kekayo Ewa, but you can call me Kayla. I am a 15-year-old girl, and I am a YouTuber. I was born and raised in Nigeria, Africa, but moved to Florida in August 2014. I started YouTube in March 2015 and I make all sorts of creative content! I love YouTube and I love how it’s allowed me to meet so many amazing people. I can’t wait to see where God will take me on this YouTube journey, and I’m very excited for the ride.
How were you inspired to begin your channel? Where did you start?
I was inspired in so many ways to begin my channel. From a young age, around 8 or 9, my friends and I made this comedy group and I would always film the videos, edit them, be in the skits, it was all just very fun. I think that’s where it all began. Shortly after that, I found out about YouTube and I discovered YouTubers like Alisha Marie, Aspyn Ovard, Bethany Mota, Tara Michelle (and many more) and they all inspired me. After a long while of deciding; I got my iPad, filmed a video, edited it on iMovie – it wasn’t the best but I was so proud of it -, made a YouTube channel and uploaded the video. That was were this whole journey began.
What inspires you and keeps you moving forward? Why are you passionate about it?
The thing with the YouTube ‘business’ is you will always get discouraged, let down, and disappointed. If you let the frustration of disappointment stop you from continuing to make videos, you will never get to the encouraging and up beat part of YouTube. I always repeated to myself ‘there’s always a rainbow after the rain’ and that helped me a lot. Also being of the Christian faith, I knew God always had a plan for me and that definitely pulled me through – even till this very day. Also, I’m passionate about it because there’s this joy I get when I make videos and it just calms me down and puts me in a good mood. I love that feeling and I don’t want it to stop, especially with all the support I’ve received so far. There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.
What’s your favorite aspect of the beauty & cosmetics industry?
I love how the beauty and cosmetics industry helps different people bring out their creative sides. It also helps lots of women and men to be more confident in their own skin. I mean everyone is beautiful, makeup or no makeup, but sometimes you just need that boost. It makes you feel invincible like you can do anything in the world. For me at least.

What makes your brand unique from other beauty channels?
I feel like what’s unique about my YouTube channel is as I am completely my jolly, childish self, I encourage everyone to be themselves and most of all to love themselves. I enjoy making colorful fun videos that everyone can enjoy and I just think of my channel as a place where I can have fun with people from all over the world that I consider my friends.
How do you organize/plan out your content?
For organizing and planning out my content, I use a specific journal that I call my ‘YouTube Journal’. All my ideas go into that journal. I write everything, every single thing I need for that specific video. Things I need to buy, how I plan on filming the video, everything. I take the journal with me everywhere, It helps me stay nice and organized.
What is your goal for your channel? Dreams?
I’ve never made any goals for my channel because, as much as I don’t care about it, disappointment can sting and I try to avoid goal-disappointment especially. I just want to see where life takes me, I definitely, though, want to improve my video quality and content. My one dream is I continue to improve on my cinematography and my channel continues to grow.
Do you have any tips for others trying to break into the beauty industry?
One very important tip, as I stated beforehand, is not giving up. You should never get discouraged if something you try doesn’t work out as you expected or you get negative feedback. If you love what you are doing and it is morally right, keep going. Try your best and your best will pull you through. Also, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. Of course, I’m speaking in the perspective of those who want to break into the beauty industry through making videos, but do it because you love it not because you are being forced to or everyone else is doing it. It won’t be as fun.

What are your favorite beauty products or your go-to skincare regimen?
My all time favorite beauty products are my trusty eyeliner, my concealer and my foundation. I can never leave the house without having a nice winged eyeliner on my eyes. It makes me feel more confident. I love the Benefit they’re real! Push up eyeliner and also the NYX Gel eyeliner and Smudger. As for skincare, I always make sure to have a moisturized face (as the skin on my face can get very dry) and for that I love using Origin’s High-Potency Night-A-Mins.
What products are you currently using on a daily basis?
Currently in my purse, I have: my nice and portable NYX Gel eyeliner and Smudger as well as my Essence Precise eyeliner brush from Ulta. Then I have my .Em Michelle Phan Flawless Finish powder compact and a kabuki brush and lastly my MAC Studio Finish concealer with the MAC 195 concealer brush.
What’s your personal style?
I love the ‘tumblr’, cute yet comfortable style. Lace up tops, t-shirt dresses, I’ve really been into chokers lately, any flat shoes; occasionally heels and wedges. Basically I am an Aeropostale, Forever21 and Urban Outfitters girl. I love wearing bright colors and everything must go together but lately I have been leaning more on the grays, the blacks, and the whites; the neutrals.
How does your personal style influence your branding?
Because my style is very casual and cute, I tend to lean more onto very teen, casual brands. Aeropostale’s ‘Bethany Mota’ collections, Adidas, Nikes; anything of that sort, I love.
What’s your favorite brand and why?
My style, as stated above, is very laid back and casual. The brand I feel appeals to my style the most is Aeropostale’s ‘Bethany Mota’. I absolutely love all the clothing items in Bethany Mota’s collections. She has always been one of my favorite YouTubers and I am so glad I get to support her by buying from her collection. Everything is very laid back, comfortable, and cute.
