JP: Before I actually knew how to do my hair or put on makeup, I watched other people do it on YouTube. Over the years, I took what I learned from the videos and experimented with different hairstyles and makeup looks on myself. Once I was more confident, I started to do hair and makeup for my friends, who suggested that I start my own channel. I was really hesitant at first, but my friends were really supportive and actually helped me film my first video!
What inspires you and keeps you moving forward? Why are you passionate about it?
JP: Having the potential to connect with hundreds and thousands of other people through a simple video inspires me to continue making them! I’ve had comments on my channel of people thanking me and telling me that my video was really helpful to them, which really makes me happy. I’m passionate about beauty and I’m passionate about helping and inspiring others. As long as people keep watching, I’ll keep making videos!
What’s your favorite aspect of the beauty industry?
JP: The fact that simple things such as new hairstyles and makeup products have the
ability for someone to express their individuality, showcase their creativity, and radiate confidence has to be my favorite aspect of the beauty industry.
What makes your brand unique from other beauty channels?
JP: Everyone comes in all shapes and colors. It can be difficult to find someone with similar skin/hair tones and types as you as well as someone who may have similar facial features. This can be important when you want to relate to products catered to those with specific features and characteristics. So, my brand is unique because of my individuality!
How do you organize/plan out your content?
JP: I start off by figuring out what I want to film. Whether it’s a new makeup look, a product review, or something more creative like a DIY. I then figure out a day and time that I want to film and that’s pretty much it! I don’t have any script or any structured procedure that I follow, because once I know what I want to film, I talk to the camera as if I’m having a conversation with a friend.
What is your goal for your channel? Dreams?
JP: My shorter-term goals are to consistently keep up with my channel and grow my audience. I hope that I can reach out, teach, and inspire as many people as I can. I want to film and release videos more frequently and have the opportunity to collaborate with other YouTubers. As for my long-term goals, I hope that I can grow my channel large enough to expand and make a much greater contribution to society.
Do you have any tips for others trying to break into the beauty industry?
JP: If you have the passion for it, then do it! Don’t let anyone stop you from doing what you want to do. You only have one life to live and you don’t have time to waste it on caring about what others think of you or surrounding yourself with negative people. Find your inspiration, lock it in, and persevere. As long as you keep trying, you will keep moving forward.
What are your favorite beauty products or your go-to skincare regimen?
JP: My beauty essentials are brow products, concealer, and mascara. As for skincare, I always use face wash, daytime moisturizers with at least spf 30, nighttime moisturizers, eye creams, and deep cleansing facial products.
What products are you currently using on a daily basis?
JP: For the brows and eyes, I am currently using Anastasia’s Dip Brow and Lancome’s Hypnose mascara. For concealer, I am using NARS’ radiant creamy concealer. As for my skin care products, I am currently using Purity by Philosophy, Kiehl’s Superfluid UV Defense Sunscreen, and Clinique’s Dramatically Different moisturizing cream.
What’s your personal style?
JP: My personal style is really laid back. I don’t wear heavy makeup on an everyday basis and I like to keep it simple. My hair is kept natural on most days and I wear simple clothing. I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. However, when it comes to more formal occasions, I love going all out and wearing something more fashionable and putting on heavier makeup.
How does your personal style influence your branding?
JP: I’m a firm believer that people should be able to love everything about themselves and be confident in their own skin before they use makeup regularly. Makeup shouldn’t be a way for people to hide their insecurities, but rather compliment their features and illustrate their creativity. There are many days that I could go out without my hair done and makeup on. I like to be comfortable and I don’t let anyone’s judgments affect me. My simplistic style in addition to my capability for complexity definitely influences my branding.
