How were you inspired to begin your channel? Where did you start?
I started my channel in high school at a time when I had zero self-confidence and make up and fashion was my outlet, because I wanted to go to school for Illustration + Visual Communications. With the hopes of working in the Beauty + Fashion Industry. I was only 14 at the time so I didn’t have a big picture vision for the channel yet. It was more of a pastime hobby before it became the influential juggernaut that it is today.
What inspires you and keeps you moving forward? Why are you passionate about it?
My faith in God keeps me moving forward knowing I can always trust in him but being in the fitness industry a lot of self-motivation has to occur. I love challenging myself and always setting new goals because I believe that you can be proud but never satisfied there’s always room for improvement. I’m able to use fitness and nutrition as a movement to encourage and inspire other people to push past their limits whether be with school, work, relationships, etc you can translate it into different areas of your life.
What’s your favorite aspect of the beauty & cosmetics industry?
A lot of people would say self-expression is their favorite aspect but for me coming from an art and design background it’s all about the creative aspect. I love the process behind the finished product. I’m very passionate about branding + a Aesthetics. I would say I’m more the creator type versus the consumer.
How do you organize/plan out your content?
At the beginning of each month I look at my calendar and see what rands I’m working with for that particular month those take top priority I then do a massive brain dump just to see what kind of the other videos and content I would like to create and try to figure out when I would work it into my schedule for every single project or video I create a start to finish plan. Everything from screen shots, notes on how I’m going to film. Props I may need. I like to be able to see the entire project on paper before I start filming.
Who are your typical followers? How would you describe them?
What’s great about owning a company ( Mae Movement ) is that YouTube is one outlet where I am able to connect with our followers or movers as we like to call them. A large part of my story has to do with how Mae Movement became what it is today, an empowering lifestyle brand. My vision is for everybody to know their potential in what ever it is that they want to accomplish it could be something small working be something that seems out of reach right now but taking small actionable steps you can make it happen I think everybody is a May movement follow because everybody has passions and you shouldn’t be limited to try and reach them.
“I love challenging myself and always setting new goals because I believe that you can be proud but never satisfied there’s always room for improvement.”
Do you have any tips for others trying to break into the beauty industry?
Staying relevant in this industry is key you have to constantly be gaining knowledge from not only the beauty and fashion industry but you need to see where social media and business is going as well. So seeing media in business trends is just as important as seeing beauty And fashion trends. The great thing about social media isn’t can connect you two people it’s the new form of networking.
What are your favorite beauty products or your go-to skincare regimen?
I believe beauty is from the inside out so I do have to share a few of my favorites healthy snacks! I love starting my day with one of the amazing grass Green drinks they help me feel energized and keep my body alkaline. I truly believe that having a healthy diet has helped my skin and hair in the long run. I LOVE my Lorac Pro Contour Palette, it has the most shades and it’s easy to blend. I I used Moroccan oil hairspray not only does it have flexible hold but it smells amazing and makes me feel very summery like I just walked off the beach!
“I believe beauty is from the inside out…”
What’s your personal style?
Growing up on the East Coast there is definitely a little bit of that classic Ralph Lauren prep in me but with a minimalist boho Mermaid twist… does that make sense ?! I would rather accessorizing the great bag or jewelry versus having my clothes be the statement unless there are really unique shapes for cuts with how the piece of clothing is designed. My winter and summer style differ completely. During the winter I love monochrome I don’t really wear a lot of color I like leggings and chunky sweater and boots during the summer I wear a lot of white linen, crotched pieces + sundresses… Like if a mermaid was on land, that would be me haha
How does your personal style influence your branding?
It influences my branding big time! Everything from the color to the continent! You will notice it’s very clean but with modern coastal style. I think it’s cool because it mixes West Coast and East Coast pretty well. Try to bring the same aesthetics to what you see in my videos as well as what’s on my website and social media.
What’s your favorite brand and why?
This couldn’t be a harder question! A true product junkie! I love so many different brands but if I could only use one would probably be NARS or MAC. For fashion I keep it super classic I love buying basics at Gap + American Eagle, they are the only places that make jeans that fit a lifters body. I also love Madewell, Zara + JCrew.
What are your go-to outfit combinations?
Winter: high waisted black leggings from AERIE are my go-to’s. A cropped sweater or turtleneck + boots or booties. Spring: a great pair of jeans + a tunic style blouse or oxford, tucked in. Booties or Wedges. Summer: I usually pair a colored shorts with some form of a white top, it could be lace, macrame, linen. I love having a large variety of shorts because during the summer, its not fuss. Its an easy grab and go outfit that has endless options. It’s so easy to dress up if you need to go out later that night with some wedges and statement jewelry.
