Cardio is the cornerstone to any good weight-loss plan, especially when done in high and low intensity intervals. Whether you are trying to lose a little weight or tone up, the first thing you should do before lifting weights is cardio. The best way to lose more weight by doing cardio will have you in the gym shorter than you’d expect.
This cardio trick is known as the HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training.
The concept is pretty simple. You transition from low-moderate intensity intervals to very high intensity intervals.
You can do this on many different machines as well as outside or on the track. Do your regular warm ups for 3 to 5 minutes then begin with 30 seconds of moderate pace, with about fifty percent maximum effort. After 30 seconds, go as hard as you can. Then repeat this 5 to 8 times if you’re a beginner.
This is more difficult than it sounds and if done properly, you’ll see its effects really soon. If you’re doing this on an exercise machine, make sure that you rev up the intensity so that it’s challenging for you. If not done in an exercise machine, you can do this by running, jumping or swimming while keeping the intervals in mind.
Doing cardio this way will have you losing more calories. Cardio done at a higher percentage of Maximal Heart Rate (MHR) burns more actual fat than say, lifting weights or doing reprieve exercises such as push ups.
As long as the exercise is performed within the aerobic zone (using oxygen), and does not become in aerobic in nature, the higher the intensity the better.
Whether it’s to get that summer body you’ve always wanted or as a personal achievement, these tips while doing cardio will have you looking lean and strong.
