How were you inspired to begin your channel? Where did you start?
AD: Juicystar07 was one of the first “beauty gurus” I started watching. I then came to learn of this whole community on YouTube of people talking about/applying makeup. I was in love! I started working for M.A.C around the same time I started my channel. As far as my start, I still remember my first video very clearly. I was in my bedroom closet and I used an older digital camera. It was a makeup tutorial using golds, it’s since been removed!
What inspires you and keeps you moving forward? Why are you passionate about it?
AD: I get a lot of positive feedback, which makes everything worth it in the end. Seeing positive comments really make my day and it’s nice to know your work isn’t going unnoticed. There’s certain girls on YouTube I’m DEDICATED to, so to imagine someone else possibly feeling that way about me is crazy! It definitely encourages me to keep going and not to give up, even though I have wanted to because of other things in my personal life. I’ve always loved makeup and the industry, it is something I’m very passionate about because of the positivity it can bring so many people. So if I could turn it into something and potentially make a career out of it, why wouldn’t I do that!?
What’s your favorite aspect of the beauty & cosmetics industry?
AD: Regaining confidence in yourself. Wearing a beautiful smokey eye feels like a pat on the back, like “You’ve got this. You look amazing.” There is so many people out there that have low self esteem or don’t feel beautiful in their own skin. It’s amazing what a little bit of makeup can do to help someone’s confidence.
What makes your brand unique from other beauty channels?
AD: Because there is only one me. That’s why I love the beauty community on YouTube so much, because everyone is different in their own way but you’re still part of a community. I also feel like I’m very real and down to earth, easy to relate to.
How do you organize/plan out your content?
AD: Anything I film is usually thought out the day before. I get inspiration from other videos, Instagram, etc. I don’t keep a list of video ideas but maybe I should. I’ll work on that.
What is your goal for your channel? Dreams?
AD: I would love for it to grow into something much more. I would love for it to turn into my career. I would love to interact with even more people and be a positive influence to many.
Do you have any tips for others trying to break into the beauty industry?
AD: It takes time. It’s easy to give up because there is so many other successful people out there. Know your worth and don’t give up. Good things in life take time and effort. Also, practice, practice, practice! Practice makes perfect 🙂
What are your favorite beauty products or your go-to skincare regimen?
AD: I love Nars Radiant Creamy concealer and Dr Lancer’s volumizing lip oil. My favorite skincare products are from LaMer. They’re expensive but nothing makes my skin feel as good! The products are incredible.
What products are currently in your purse?
AD: I only keep a couple products in my purse usually, a lip product and hand cream of some kind. Right now it’s a L’occitane hand cream and Clarins Lip Perfector. What’s your personal style? – Comfy and casual with bohemian influences.
How does your personal style influence your branding?
AD: I keep things simple. I want my outfit and makeup to be effortless 99% of the time, same with my brand. What’s your favorite brand and why? – Toms, I wear them everyday. I also love that they give back. It always means a lot to me when larger companies that have the means, give back to where it’s needed.
